The stuff you don’t want to hear, but you really need to know.
Prepare yourself mentally … this could be a bumpy ride!
In my introduction (if you haven’t read it, go back and read it first), I made some rather pointed statements. You see, I have never been one to sit on the fence and when it comes to helping people, I shoot straight from the hip. As I said before, my style might ruffle your feathers a little, but at least you’ll know I am always being honest and truthful. Now, let’s get started!
But, hold on! I first have to know; are you mentally prepared? Good, because “the stuff you didn’t want to know” might sting a little. You see, chances are that you are wasting your time in the traffic exchanges. OUCH! I can say this because I have seen hundreds of thousands of members come through our doors over the years and the incredible majority of them aren’t using them properly.
Now that we got that ugly little bit out of the way, we can get right to the part where I help you. Obviously, nobody likes to be told that they are doing something wrong (hence the part about telling you “stuff you don’t want to hear”), but the truth is that the sooner you can come to grips with the fact you are doing it wrong; the sooner you can get to doing it right. So, are you ready?
The first major “brain hurdle” that you will need to get over is that it takes TIME to do things properly. In the fast-paced internet world where everything is “instant”, this might be a hard pill to swallow. And it’s even harder when you are bombarded with endless promises of great wealth in short periods of time. The truth is that the only people making huge amounts of money quickly in those programs, are the owners. For everybody else, it takes a LOT of time to get it right.
I know what you’re thinking … “but I have spent years doing this, so I have definitely spent enough time and yet I am still not successful at it”. Although you may have spent all this time, the big question is “where did you spend your time?”. You see, most new internet marketers will join the latest and greatest program every few weeks. For the average person just starting out, this is a sure way to fail.
Let’s assume you are new to affiliate marketing. This would be a typical scenario. You join program “A” and you drive traffic to your affiliate link. You don’t make millions overnight like they promised (big surprise!), but that’s okay, because another program (”B”) has just launched so you join that one and start sending traffic to your affiliate link. Your time has now shifted to program “B” and on and on the cycle goes. Within 6 months you have joined 10 or more programs and haven’t spent enough time to make any of them work.
From the example above, you can see how somebody can spend a huge amount of time and end up with virtually nothing in return. This will lead to frustration and eventually giving up on everything altogether.
So, what does all this have to do with traffic exchanges? Well, traffic exchanges are a nice cheap way to get traffic to those affiliate links and so this is often where new internet marketers end up. And using traffic exchanges to send traffic to an affiliate link is exactly what you DO NOT WANT TO DO!
In my next article, I will start to dive deeper into what a traffic exchange should really be used for. Plus, I will share a little story with you on how my company (Logiscape) got started about 9 years ago.
Traffic Exchanges CAN make sense

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackKudos for sharing that. One of the hardest things to do is persuading surfers to promote their own website in traffic exchanges
Maybe it will be easier now when we can say Logiscape also says don’t advertise affiliate links too
I am also looking forward to hearing the story of your early days
Every day I see hundreds of pages in rotation that do not stand a chance of ever producing a result for that advertiser.
The majority of the surfing community needs to start utilizing the tools and techniques that currently only a select few are employing.
Lack of actionable education is the reason 99% fail.
I am looking forward to your articles.

Yeah you do see hundreds of pages in rotation that don’t stand a chance, that,s because after being scammed so many times people end up just having fun surfing and usually just promoting traffic exchanges because that,s all that is left that ain’t a scam, A thought would be to get rid of all of use free members for a while and see how the 100 or 200 of you do promoting to each other, with all of your knowledge you guys should let us know which sites are worth joining and what ones are junk
scammed one time to many Randy
Hi Tyler and thanks for this post.
I started with Traffic Exchanges, including Traffic Era, 1 year ago.
Also I started with the A + B + C for some months, receiving nothing…
After that I try to comprehend the surfer’s way to use a Traffic Exchange, so I tried to focalize on four programs only : the 2 most famous downline builders and 2 of my sites to bring traffic in other ways.
That finally work properly, and I’m happy to found a way to use Traffic Exchanges properly !
Thanks and Goodbye,

That is the stuff I want to hear and learn how to spend my time in internet of course. I am looking forward to your articles, please don´t stop!!
Right On! Tell it like it is. We can take it. It is easier to learn how to do things right. than it is to do the wrong thing over and over getting little or no results. I was very frustrated with my traffic exchange results for months. I gave up many times, but kept coming back to traffic exchanges. Because it is a simple and inexpensive way to target advertise. Once you know how to do it right.

Hello Tyler
I am looking forward to your future thoughts.
Traffic exchanges are full of ‘newbies’ who are floundering. Hopefully they will read, think and act on your information. The ‘pogo sticking’ through cyberspace is almost like a disease….it just keeps spreading.
Cheers!

I’m looking forward to the next post. Have a hunch you will write about how you need to build your list using traffic exchanges :)
To quote the blog entry, “using traffic exchanges to send traffic to an affiliate link is exactly what you DO NOT WANT TO DO!”. Isn’t TrafficEra a traffic exchange? What happens when all those members who are using TrafficEra to promote their affiliate link decide to follow this advice? Isn’t your membership going to drop like a rock?
Hopefully, this is not simply to promote TrafficEra, instead of sharing knowledge that can be used at other traffic exchanges, including TrafficEra, of course.
I eagerly await the upcoming entries.
Great post, Tyler
I totally agree that you shouldn’t promote your affiliate link directly.
Standing out from the crowd and building your own list are sure-fire ways at succeeding with traffic exchanges.
I believe the biggest problem that the traffic exchange industry is facing or had been facing is that there are way too many tire kickers/freebie junkies/getrichquick people compare to those who are serious about running an online business.
You see most rookie TE affiliates/newbies don’t have any clue how to run a real business. Some of those people have flipped burgers all their lives and you want them to learn how run a business? come on. It is not that easy. My sister ran a pizza joint in our local mall for years and my family help out alot and I cannot begin to describe the insanity of running a business. It’s not that different online.
Of course there’s so much more that the traffic exchange owners are not telling us such as demographics and statistics.
Take care.
I don’t think it will take people too long to work out that traffic exchanges don’t work for affiliate programs links – all they need to do is surf for a few credits and look at the results – which will be ZERO
After all most traffic exchange program owners are only running a traffic exchange because they never made any money when they used to surf themselves i.e. why not sell traffic to all these guys that are crazy enough to think that the traffic will actually work
I like your point about people joining the “latest craze” – the “newest thing” just launched. Why doesnt it work for you? If too many people promote the same thing then the results will be split between thousands, and the small guy will be left with very little
Its better to find the kind of program that is working quite well but isnt splattered everywhere. The competition is less so you have more chance. Maybe people ignore it thinking it doesnt work, maybe the graphics arn’t that good or the site looks a bit dated, but no matter the program turns in sales for average affiliates every month. I could tell you of any number of programs I’ve found like this that generate a commission for me every month – even using traffic exchanges
So the bottom line is yes it does take time – another good point made above – but if you surf intelligently and concentrate on whats actually working, then you can succeed with your chosen home business
I agree so much with the only people making money on affiliate programs are the owners..
I see affiliate programs been run all the time you can even get fake AdSense Report generators now this is all you see and you will never earn with these affiliate programs because they all look the same and you can tell they are a scam straight away because they try to convince you too much As for the owners of these programs just look at joel comm how many made money from him I would say very Few.
